This week on Jean: David and the boys invade Manhattan as they share their NY Yankee's trip and other adventures in the big city!

Jean is old order Mennonite from New York State. Jean and her husband David and family live on a dairy farm, and travel their community using horse and buggy. She tells her story exclusively on Amish Stories.

David, Michael and Edward went to the ball game at Yankee Stadium in New York City.  They had a driver take them to the bus location.  On the bus, it is about six hours from where we live to New York City.  It took longer because the bus stopped at other pick-ups and stopped for lunch.  When they got to New York City they went to their hotel.

David had worked it out so instead of going home right after the ball game they would not go home on the bus, but stay over night.  They would go home the next night when another bus would take them home.  First they had dinner then went to see the ball game.  When the game was over, they stayed over night.  All three really enjoyed the game.

The next day, David had arranged for a cab and they went sight seeing.  The first place they went was to the Memorial for 911 where they all took hands and prayed.  They also saw where the new building is going up. I am not sure in what order, but they saw Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, United Nations Building, Central Park to ride in the horse drawn carriage, and more places.  The man in Central Park didn’t think that David could drive a carriage, but gave him the reins.

David proved him wrong, but they all had a good time.
Oh, and they ate.  They had breakfast at the hotel, but took all of them including the taxi driver to lunch.  The taxi man was just starting in New York City and some how he gave them a good rate to drive them around the city as there were places many other tourists would see that they didn’t want to.  For dinner Michael, Edward and David ate at the hotel, and offered the taxi driver dinner, but he went home to his family.

The men took some time for shopping as they bought David Jr. a stuffed animal that said New York City, Susan a coin pure that had New York City on it.  They bought me a set of New York City salt and pepper shakers.  We think the best that they bought was some cotton candy and salt water taffy.

They were going to take an afternoon nap, but they were too busy sight seeing and shopping.  At midnight they got on the bus to come home and got here about 8:00 AM.  A couple of my brothers had come over to milk the cows and do other chores for them.  So when David, Michael and Edward got home they had breakfast and went to bed.  They woke up about four hour later and told us about the trip and gave us our gifts.

They really enjoyed the trip.  All had a great time and they realize that this may not happen again so they saw all they wanted on this trip.
Be With God,
Jean
