MEMORIAL WEEKEND RECIPE: BARBECUE HAMBURGERS

Remembering our American heroes

Barbecue Hamburgers

Mix sauce ingredients; bring to a boil. Remove from heat and se aside 3/4 cup to serve with burgers. Mix quick oats with egg yolk; add remaining ingredients. Mix well, then add 1/8 cup barbecue sauce. Shape into patties. Grill covered over medium heat for 6-8 minutes on each side. Baste with the barbecue sauce the last 5 minutes of grilling. Serve with remaining barbecue sauce, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, cheese, pickles or whatever you like. Barbecue Sauce:
3/4 cup ketchup
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons molasses
1/8 teaspoon liquid smoke
1½ teaspoons mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon salt
dash of pepper
Burgers:
1/4 cup quick oats
1 egg yolk
1/8 teaspoon garlic salt
1/8 teaspoon onion salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
dash of salt
1 lb. ground beef
